Of Interest | HistoryWild pheasant hunting for the do it yourself hunter that wants strictly and only self guided wild bird hunts. Too good to be true? Not only is it true it has been since 1965 and on private lease land of sufficient acreage to allow for a verity of habitat and chick reproduction, the keys to wild bird hunting. That is the only kind of hunting Mid-America Hunting Association has ever provided.
WildWild pheasant hunting means we do not plant any birds, the habitat is 100% natural or existing at the time we lease the land and we do not enhance the habitat. Leasing it is a far more economical approach achieving more average per hunter than could be gained through land purchase or habitat enhancement. The next advantage and distinction we offer is that we make the entire state available to us rather than having a limited driving distance around a lodge. Our lodging is by local motel and keeping with our do it yourself hunter approach the hunter makes his own reservations. These two aspects: large acreage and regional distribution should not be taken lightly. They are integral to our hunters returning for seasons of hunts to come rather than just one hunt. AcreageLarge acreage ranging from 220,000 to 240,000 acres over the years means several wild pheasant hunting quality points. The first is it offers a range of habitat types allowing all to find their favorite. It next allows that should one region have a bad bird year it is unlikely that all regions within the state has bad years meaning there will always be a region of good hunting. AnxietyWhat the wild pheasant hunter can look forward to is a leisurely approach to his hunts free from anxiety. The first anxiety relief is that he has a place to hunt and that place can be a different field each time stepping from the truck. The next anxiety relief is freedom from public land hunters and their competitive approach to pheasant hunts. Our hunter distribution system tried and tested over the years long ago developed into an approach to managed hunting that prevents mixing of dogs with others. Scheduling anxiety is relieved as under our system every pheasant hunter hunts on any day during the season he has available. WhereWhat we provide is the very spot the hunter parks his truck, steps out and hunts without daily check-ins, tracking down landowners or any other activity during daylight hours other than wild pheasant hunting. Those areas are in two well known pheasant hunting states of Iowa and Kansas. Not PerfectAs good as this all sounds it is not perfect. Wild pheasant hunting has no guarantees at all. The pheasant hunts success is based on the hunter’s design of the hunt. The birds are there, it is up to the hunter to make the hunt and not all will. Willingness to walk, shooting ability and dog power are what the hunter must provide to the lease land, recommendations of where to hunt and the lodging listing we provide. Our part is the easy part. We live here and MAHA is our only employment. From our 12 months of boots on the ground experience dating back to the 60's and the fact we train and hunt our own bird dogs means we know pheasants and the habitat they require. We also know what region of the state where they thrive. Getting the land is the easy part. The hunter must have the other elements otherwise the hunt is far less than what it could be.
