Administrative | Plantation StyleFurther compare us to the southeast USA where quail hunting is on plantations with coveys anchored to feeders and underbrush groomed for easy hunter access. This is the southern classic bobwhite quail hunting from horse drawn wagons with quail specialist dogs programmed through experience of running the same route of the same coveys on the same feeder locations. Points are made, hunters disembark their wagons, load, flush and shoot. Any dropped birds recovered, the hunters remount the wagon and head on to the next dog point. The faster the action and the sooner the return to the big house for cocktails the better the hunt experience for these clients. Under these conditions the quail hunt is a sideshow to what goes on in the big house.
Not Only CoveyOur wild bird hunts are not just for the covey hunting to be found where guides attempt to get their client hunters exposure to a lot of birds in a short time. We extend beyond that for the do it yourself hunter seeking to work his bird dog. That is our distinction, that being the type of hunter that seeks our wild bird hunts and that includes the singles pursuit well after the covey flush. This hunter also extends his dog work as we do see far more quail dogs that are steady to point, wing, shot, drop and break on command along with long standoff points, good backing and retrieving to hand. This is the quail hunter we seek rather than the single minded attitude of limits achieved. A limit in our case is one where each bird harvested was by a single shot off a pointed bird, Our jump or wild flush quail do not know how lucky they are as those are largely pass birds except for the most novice bird dog owner. This hunter vice collector or dog work vice quail in the bag attitude is what brings our hunters back with some traveling well over a 1,000 miles for a second hunt the same season and for years of quail hunts to come. These same hunters will mark on their map covey locations and add to that map each trip out. these covey maps are not so much a plan to return to hunt the same birds as most of these quail hunters find the added adventure of covering new ground enticing rather than capitalizing on known bird locations. That changes the year a first season pup is introduced to wild quail hunting and by that time any hunter with a couple of seasons with us will have that pup into wild quail every day. Come and enjoy our wild quail hunting for what it is, the opportunity for a good quail hunt behind your own dogs hunting both coveys and single quail. MAHA StyleOur point is not to disparage any hunter's or regional hunting methods described as occurring in Texas or SE USA. We simply contrast their predominate hunting method to show that our four covey day on good habitat with cool weather will provide those that want to quail hunt their own upland bird dogs a full day's worth of action and they may have that for their pleasure the entire season. While this page covers a quail hunting method comparison in a light manner continuing through our quail hunting section will proved in greater detail the quality of quail hunting we provide in Kansas, Missouri and Iowa. The bottom line is that we provide self guided hunts over natural terrain on leases we manage for the do it yourself hunter for the entire season at a cost the average hunter can afford. |
