This is the southern classic bobwhite quail hunting from horse drawn wagons with quail specialist dogs programmed through experience of running the same route of the same coveys on the same feeder locations.

Points are made, hunters disembark their wagons, load, flush and shoot. Any dropped birds recovered, the hunters remount the wagon and head on to the next dog point. The faster the action and the sooner the return to the big house for cocktails the better the hunt experience for these clients.

Under these conditions the quail hunt is a sideshow to what goes on in the big house.

Not Only Covey

Our wild bird hunts are not just for the covey hunting to be found where guides attempt to get their client hunters exposure to a lot of birds in a short time. We extend beyond that for the do it yourself hunter seeking to work his bird dog. That is our distinction, that being the type of hunter that seeks our wild bird hunts and that includes the singles pursuit well after the covey flush.

This hunter also extends his dog work as we do see far more quail dogs that are steady to point, wing, shot, drop and break on command along with long standoff points, good backing and retrieving to hand. This is the quail hunter we seek rather than the single minded attitude of limits achieved. A limit in our case is one where each bird harvested was by a single shot off a pointed bird, Our jump or wild flush quail do not know how lucky they are as those are largely pass birds except for the most novice bird dog owner.

That changes the year a first season pup is introduced to wild quail hunting and by that time any hunter with a couple of seasons with us will have that pup into wild quail every day.
