Missouri Is Hunter Friendly
Missouri is a hunter friendly state and our leases offers the best turkey, waterfowl and Bobwhite Quail hunts to be found in the Association.
Waterfowl
Waterfowl hunts are a big Missouri hunter attraction. The Lower Missouri River Basin within the convergence of the Central and Upper Mississippi Flyway where the Missouri, Mississippi and Ohio Rivers come together makes for a significant concentration of migratory birds with good layover and several well known micro flyways. Add to that our enhanced wetlands and a friendly point of contact of the MAHA staff and there is not much left to do but hunt.
Duck hunters will find our private Missouri duck hunting wetlands to make for a better hunts than public wetlands. Overall, our duck hunters have the highest renewal rate of all of the Association hunters. One trip to our enhanced pre-existing, 100% private wetlands will convince most they will be back for many hunts to come. Not only are the wetlands amongst best that can be hunted in the central mid-west we also have well built stable duck blinds that we camouflage with our own grown rippy grass. With all wetlands and blinds available for all our duck hunters to reserve they will not get bored with the same water every day.
Goose hunters have 8,000 acres of crop fields producing many days of skies filled with more goose than can some times be imagined. Then there are also the other days when any bird could not be bought let alone called in. Have a look at some goose field sets and hunt results to see just one of the options available to our hunters.
Missouri Waterfowl
Amongst our Missouri waterfowl hunters, goose hunters are a minority leaving many crop stubble fields without a hunter for many weeks during the season. Many of our goose hunting fields have improved surface access roads, a variety of water structures and of course the mud and cold that keeps many away.
Even the hardcore goose hunters that joined the Association seem to evolve after a couple of seasons into mostly duck hunters as the walk up blinds simply too easy to hunt from and finding the duck action to be as thrilling.
These two self guided goose hunters count amongst the less than 30 we have on any of the 8,000+ acres in crop stubble we maintain for goose hunting each season. For those that want to go goose hunting our Missouri lowlands are by far the most productive of our three states. Being on geese many days through the season to include those exceptional days of hunts over with the first morning light flight making for many a good story.
Teal (above) and early duck season start off many waterfowl hunter's season followed by some pheasant hunting until peak migration then its back to the blinds. After peak migration most are ready for some walking during a January pheasant hunt that leads right into late and subsequently spring goose seasons. For those with the energy to do so the goose hunts are followed by spring turkey that caps of the hunting seasons until fall.

Turkey
For the do it yourself wild turkey hunter our Missouri turkey hunting land does hold up to the reputation Missouri has across the nation for having the most dense turkey population and the highest confirmed through a game check in system harvest count of all the turkey hunting states.
An over the counter tag purchase system with two spring turkey tags allowed per hunter brings a lot of turkey hunters willing to travel from many states away to the more liberal Missouri hunting season. A further attraction is the possibility at a mature tom weighing well into the 20's and 10 inch beard an almost minimum.
Most that come to Missouri for a spring turkey hunt will find the Missouri spring season overlaps with Kansas and Iowa. Kansas has two more spring turkey tags available for online or over the counter purchase that include both the Eastern and Rio Grande Turkey. Iowa spring turkey tag is by draw. It is very common for our members to hunt Missouri and at the least Kansas on the same spring hunting trip.
In all cases of our turkey hunting we will recommend to the new member right where to park his truck, step out and hunt. After that the hunter hunts on his own. The same Missouri spring turkey hunt farms may serve as that hunter's fall deer hunting spots as well.
Most turkey hunters will find our private lease land providing the safety of hunter separation all that turkey hunt always have in the back of their mind during the hunt. We are also careful to build reasonable expectations to insure no one thinks our turkey hunts are any easier than any other private land exclusive use turkey hunt. Missouri Turkey
For Missouri turkey hunting as well as for all of our hunts we will get the self guided hunter to the point he parks his truck, steps out and hunt on productive habitat that insures a good hunt and that hunter's return fro years of hunts to come. We will take away the mystery of what state, the region in that state and what farm that has what that hunter is looking for.
Upland Bird
Missouri Quail
Missouri wild Bobwhite Quail hunting for those that have their own bird dogs, shooting ability and willingness to walk. We will complete that package with private land and hunter separation where no hunter needs mix his dogs with others.
There is no doubt that we have fine quail hunts in Missouri. There is great doubt that quail hunters will have a good hunt.
While the capability/willingness to walk and shooting skill may be present within the hunter, the dog power may not be what it needs to be in even the best dogs.
An example is a chukar, plains grouse or woods grouse dog. These dogs are generalists at their approach to cover as grouse and chukar may be anywhere and the dog hunts everywhere. Bobwhite Quail are very habitat specific and along narrowly defined edges. A dog that can cast the downwind edge, dive into likely spots and work in and out of that edge will find more quail. A dog that runs open fields, across creek bottoms or works a casting pattern to the front or sides of the hunter will find quail, but not nearly as many coveys as an edge runner.
Dogs become specialist to the bird and habitat they most frequently hunt. Those specialty skills do not always transition to success for other upland birds with different and specific habitat requirements. Even amongst the honest quail hunters that have more than one dog not every dog will be a good quail hunter.
Wild Missouri Bobwhite Quail hunters compose the majority of the upland bird hunters as pheasant populations do not favorably compare to that of Kansas.
Self guided Bobwhite Quail hunters mostly consist of pointing bird dog lovers that will enjoy the many miles of crop edge and brushed over areas. True covey and singles hunts from zero to 8 coveys a day may be expected across our private lease land.
Our Missouri quail hunting land offers the type of quail cover that allows for the first covey rise to be followed by a lot of close order singles quail action that any upland bird hunter with two dogs on the ground may find he has one too many as he quick times between points. Missouri quail hunting is far in contrast for those familiar with plantations or massive covey count ranch hunts where as that type of hunting style frequently results in failure on our 100% natural habitat and wild quail.
Bird dogs not capable of targeting habitat, running downwind along fence rows or far too conditioned on close standoff of propagated quail will result only in nature walks rather than a good wild Bobwhite Quail hunt. Those with wild quail hunting conditioned dogs will enjoy the truest form of a Bobwhite Quail hunt with Missouri offering some of the easiest to walk and hunt upland bird habitat to be found.
Missouri pheasant hunting will disappoint the pheasant loving bird hunter. Missouri simply lacks the large acreage tall grass, free of tree, near grain crop fields that Kansas has to offer. Whitetail Deer
Do it yourself Missouri deer hunters will find both benefit and consequence to Missouri's habitat.
Missouri's more rolling terrain makes for less efficient agriculture and far more deer hunting areas than our Kansas or Iowa land. While our Missouri deer hunting land does hold many big bucks there are also many doe and scrap racks that will become bothersome to those that draw back on every approaching deer.
Having put the down side up front the value Missouri deer hunting brings is the large 4-point one side restriction zone that has grown many large 8 points and the more valued and sought after good 10's and 12's. This region of heavily leased land populated by trophy whitetail hunters further increases the selectivity of the deer harvested. Most of these region wide hunters that pay for hunting leases and are self guided seek only wall mounts passing scrap racks for future potential.
Missouri Deer
Missouri deer hunting with its over the counter state wide deer tags give hunters one more chance for success and an enjoyable hunt even when the tag is in pocket on the trip home.
And, it is by Missouri's buy at will tag with seasons offset from those of kansas and Iowa that allows time strapped hunters to hunt two of our three states each year.
