Interest | A 1/2 x 1/2 mile square, quarter section or 160 acre spot. A weedy edge along a crop field.
This farm, mostly in row crop was cut by wooded, brush filled and weedy dry drainages and field edges. Each bit if it was walked and no quail found. This turned out to be a pheasant point. What was hunted on this day was two of these 1/4's or 160 acres each, one half section of 320 acres and two smaller 80's, meaning 80 acres each. In no one stop was any one farm hunted in its total acreage. In each case the hunt consisted of walking along and running the dog along the available habitat spots. There was more cover habitat available than what was walked. It is a matter for having an eye for the ground to hunt and the ground to pass. To try and hunt it all would be more than could be covered in one day's light or the energy level of any one hunter. |
