Interest | Late season, January hunt. No rush to get to the point, the quail in covey or singles hold. No shot either as the covey was well within the wood line flushing through it to the far side never to be found again.
Many past conversation with many that have reviewed this website have commented on there cannot be too many pictures showing habitat, dogs on point and the variety of conditions to be expected. The snow was melting. The temperature was in the 30's at sunup and the 40's by noon reaching a high of 46 degrees on this first weekend in January. This picture was four days after a cold snap and snow storm. The snow fall ranged from 4 to 10 inches wind driven from east to western Kansas. The snow storm was on the first day, followed by three more in the 20's with lower wind-chill days. Then, as is common after any cold snap, a warm up. The wind this day was 6 mph, or just enough to wave a 3x5 flag half furled. This picture was in north central Kansas just a 20 minute drive south of the Nebraska State line. |
