| No one that Kansas pheasant hunts the high grass would pass on these thickets to find quail. The farm showed is high value due to the grain crop (snow covered), edge thicket and tall grass seen in the mid ground right side of the picture. During winter these same thickest hold pheasants. While these pictures and text may seem obvious and un-necessary for the experienced central mid-west upland bird hunter they are of great value to those looking toward their first mid-west hunt and to take away some of the mystery of where to hunt.
These type of thickets can be anywhere in a field, along the property line, in waterways, or along drainages.
This Kansas hunter gives good perspective on the size of area to be covered. The thicket that held pheasants is large and the far ground tree line the lease boundary fence that could hold quail, that is if willing to walk that far. A good example of big open Kansas upland bird hunts.
