Hunts
Interests | From the same upland bird hunter, Mike Sheffer, as the previous page on the same Kansas pheasant hunt. His contributions do much to develop reasonable expectations through a birds in the bag per hour record.
Text that came with the pictures: "Here are a couple of habitat pictures, the picture (above) is where I harvested three roosters in about three hours of hunting and the picture (below) is where I harvested 1 bird in about and hour and a half. I had never hunted these patches before and I also found 4 coveys of quail; two of them were very large for this time of year, 14 to 16 birds."
Pheasant habitat pictures are are always tough to show all that there is. These Kansas fields are large with many spots of better and weaker pheasant cover. The value of these photos is they have been taken by a long time Kansas pheasant hunter that hunts pointing dogs independent of any connection to Mid-America Hunting Association other than being a member and self guided upland bird hunter. One more pheasant hunting perspective beyond ours where quality pheasant hunts may be found. From such hunter feedback we develop different hunt recommendations based on bird of preference and habitat of preference compared to our year round upland bird forecast observations. While we will get everyone a good start the one price all hunters must pay and pay for through only their own boots on the ground effort is to hunt new, to them, spots. Each farm will have a golden nugget, hot spot or sweet spot. However it is described, most farms that we recommend to hunt have a must hunt spot or more. Finding those spots is the hunt. |
