Fly-in

For those flying in to hunt or scout the map below shows the driving time in hours from Kansas City to the various marked locations where we lease land. Some areas appear closer than the listed time, however the highway quality to those locations is less than to others. For example some places in south central Missouri are accessible by two lane state highways with many turns and towns as opposed to other locations that are accessible by four lane turnpikes.

Rental car experience has shown that peak car rental periods are the first week of Kansas upland and the Missouri rifle deer season both start on the second Saturday in November. During this period SUV's must be reserved in advance.

Rental car or SUV choices to save some money on the lower cost compact rental rather than the higher cost SUV need to be based on the likelihood of rain and the on-the-spot possibly of an upgrade to an SUV. The chart below gives average rainfalls during the most frequent periods of hunters flying in. The concern is road quality and the affect rain has on our country roads. If it is dry a two wheel drive compact will be able to traverse 90% of our country roads. If we get as little as a 1/4 inch of rain it will require a four wheel drive truck to travel all country roads.

Hunters that fly in to scout or hunt typically fall into three categories. The first is the deer hunter that flies in to have a combination dove shoot, deer scouting trip during early September. The second category are the spring turkey hunters that fly in for a quick two day hunt. The third group are those that fly out to meet up with home state hunting buddies that drove in.
