Crappie

For crappie the most common fishing method is to jig and some spinner bait. Bass, it is spinner and natural with some jigging. Fly fishing is the least used method, not because it is the least effective, because fly fishing skills are the hardest to acquire.
The great strength of MAHA is the ability to hunt and fish to one's own preference without anyone holding the hunter or fisherman's hand. For fishing nothing else better exemplifies this than those few that seek the day fly fishing for the enjoyment of the catch. Pictured here is just one case.
While the Association staff makes no pretense about being fly fisherman as that is a skill beyond our scope John and Erik traveling up from Oklahoma show us all how it is done.

The tidbits they offer here most likely appeal to but few other than the example they set of fishing their way. We certainly appreciate their efforts at sending in their pictures as without them few may consider this option as they currently are the only ones in the Association that seek this bit of daily adventure. The float tube does appear to be the secrete for successful fly fishing our less that clear of obstruction waters.

Obstructions

Some tough shoreline fishing conditions.
Open water seems to be the fly fisherman's fair. However, with the extra accuracy their skilled casting allows working the weed edge is frequently an advantage us boat bound spinner and jig fisherman cannot match. To be able to place the bait without the shadowed presence of a boat along with its noise should make for a much better day.
John and Erik returned the next season and sent in these pictures and letter.
Thanks to you two this web page on fly fishing is as good as it is.

While these two are the fly fishing experts they found in Mid-America Hunting Association what they prefer to do if they could do it all the time, bird hunt.

Upland bird hunting is what it is all about for me and Erik and our GSP "Sable". Getting action photos of my two favorite hunting partners will provide lasting memories. During the off season we try to get to some of the MAHA fishing ponds 2 or 3 times. We have always caught some quality fish. This 17" crappie, 23" bass and nice catfish were caught one afternoon in May of this year. Thanks for providing this quality hunting and fishing!
