Self guided hunts are defined with Mid-America Hunting Association providing:
Private hunting land access.
Reservation system so all know where they will be hunting without stacking hunters up on the same land.
Keeping an up to date lodging, vet, wrecker and meat locker listing near all association land.
The hunter provides all of his own scouting, equipment, skills, lodging, meals, transportation.
The Association through telephone conversations and the online maps will get the hunter to the point of where to park his truck, step out and hunt. The hunter makes the rest of the hunt.

Sam, with that rare success we all want to achieve. Green 219.
For the deer hunter he may pre season scout, hang stands, post blinds and hunt as many farms and stands as he has time to develop. He may select to hunt archery, modern firearms or muzzleloader season. He may hunt for as many days or hunting trips as he has time.
Success keys that those with impressive string of wall mounts include:
Scout at the beginning of the hunt to scout for deer. Scouting in March while shed hunting is history, not where the fall bucks will be. The thought is if spending time and money to scout do so when it will have the most payoff. Save that scouting time for when early muzzleloader or archery season is on. if not successful then come out for a second hunt later in the season. Spend your money hunting rather than just walking over the fields.
Hunt some of the same farms from season to season. Hunt new leases each year. Nero get stuck in a rut of hunting the same land because the hunter knows that lease. Scouting or hunting at least one new spot each trip keeps the hunt motivation with the possibility of finding that next cherry spot.
Find the buck of choice by covering ground. Do not expect any one spot to be good because the hunter wants it to be good. Most deer hunters will hunt 2 to 3 spots each trip. many hunt 3 to 5. The understanding comes from the opposed who hunt but one spot the entire trip. Those hunters often reported a declining rate of any deer observations. The belief is that a hunter will adversely impact any spot regardless of how careful he may be. It is better to hunt one spot for less than two days to let it recover become coming back to hunt it again.
Hunt deer not trees. More important than woody cover is low to the deer eye level cover. A water source. Being out of direct line of sight of human activity. The central mid-west terrain is much different than the land most of the Association traveling deer hunters have experience with. New terrain requires different tactics. The ones that adapt to different deer patterns influenced by different terrain have the earliest success.
Early rut decoys, grunts, rattling and attracting scents work.

Thanks to Charles for these finely composed pictures.
Waterfowl hunters will find over 800 acres of private wetlands water surface. It is all within the Mississippi Flyway.
There are multiple fully camouflaged duck blinds. Several wade-in and layout boat areas.
Goose hunters have 8,000 acres of crop stubble dedicated to them on a variety of water impoundments. More when covering just the crop stubble fields on north Missouri and eastern Kansas. Over 70,000 acres to scout out where the geese are, set up near by and see how it goes.
The waterfowl hunter provides his own calling skills, decoys, and personal camouflage.
More at our waterfowl hunt web site.
Upland bird hunters have a great variety of regions, habitat type and bird densities to select from.
The first decision is to hunt areas with more or less pheasant or quail densities. The next decision is to hunt the brushy draw, crop edge or tall prairie grass.
The best part is being able to step from the truck onto a different field each time doing so of every day of every trip and never cross tracks for seasons to come. This is also without mixing dogs with others.
Advance to our detailed pheasant and quail hunting section.
Turkey hunters have a long spring seasons. Liberal multiple over the counter tags. Two species that may be hunted on the same trip.
Just as in deer hunting when a self guided hunter turkey hunts he hunts an individually numbered property. He hunts that property alone.
Turkey season seems to be a popular fall deer hunt scouting time. The prime turkey leases will be for turkey hunting alone during spring season.
Success comes form set up and calls. The run and gun hunter will find the open crop land turkeys far too leery of movement. This is a case where the traveling turkey hunter must adapt to new terrain. large stands of woods do not exit to cover the hunter's movement.
