Mid-America Hunting Association is a do it yourself hunter organization of over 200,000 acres of private hunting lease land exclusive to Mid-America Hunting Association members in Kansas, Missouri and Iowa for Mule and Whitetail Deer; Eastern and Rio Grande Turkey; duck and goose; pheasant and quail hunting.

For one annual cost the hunter gains 365 day/year access to fish, scout and hunt all seasons, all lease land in Kansas, Iowa and Missouri compliant to state and federal wildlife regulations. When the hunter travels from his home to one of our hunting leases he simply gets out of his truck and starts hunting as a self guided hunter.

Deer

Matt from South Carolina with his second trophy whitetail deer from his second year with MAHA

Archery, firearms, muzzleloader and youth deer hunting starting in September in Missouri and Kansas, running through early January in Iowa, with year round scouting for trophy and not so trophy deer hunters.

Begin with our deer hunting page for a quick overview then expand to our Iowa deer hunting section showing where we cover Iowa deer hunting zones 4 & 5 along the upper reaches of the Grand River Watershed.

Kansas deer hunting offers a choice between Whitetail and Kansas Mule Deer with a range of habitat variety along with season offset to that of Missouri allowing much flexibility at planning. Start with our Kansas Whitetail Deer page or Kansas Mule Deer Hunting.

Missouri deer hunting is an over the counter tag and deer hunter friendly state with Missouri Deer hunting offering a point restriction zone allowing most to deer hunt Missouri and either Kansas or Iowa the same hunting season.

What we offer is simply deer hunting. For those that want to trophy deer hunt they will find the opportunity to get eyes on a wall hanger just about every hunt. As we are a self guided deer hunter operation and many deer hunters travel to our leases from out of state, these hunters for the most part are trophy deer hunters. For others that simply enjoy the deer hunt for the hunt quality itself they too will have a good time applying their skills to the level of deer hunt they prefer. In all cases doe harvest is encouraged.

Turkey

Kevin traveling from Vermont with a Rio Grande Turkey

Eastern and Rio Grande Turkey hunting for the same cost. Turkey hunting on private lease land throughout the entire spring and fall season in Kansas, Iowa and Missouri. Four spring tags over the counter, 6 week season and a more liberal fall turkey season.

Missouri turkey hunting is along the heavily agricultural land use region where the Eastern Turkeys grow to 22 - 27 pounds with a rare 30 pounder once every couple of years. Read how we take Missouri turkey hunting and make it better with private land and turkey hunter separation.

Kansas turkey hunting gives choice between Eastern or Rio Grande Turkey or hunt both Kansas Rio Grande and Eastern Turkey for that added enjoyment of new terrain.

Iowa turkey hunting has a limited and broken season that we can maximize with easy private lease land access throughout each of Iowa's turkey hunting seasons.

The most well standing yearly comment from the bulk of our turkey hunters concerns how they could be selective as to the turkey hunt they want. A few will make it a spring campaign of filling five tags. Others, concentrate within one state turkey hunting their favored deer area. Most that travel for spring turkey season are happy to harvest one tom and spend the remainder of the trip deer scouting. The final group are those that seek what some describe as a trophy tom, one of above average weight or beard. MAHA private land self guided turkey hunting does mean all may turkey hunt their way rather than having to follow a turkey guide's instructions or compete with other hunters.

Waterfowl

Frank and Al with some early season ducks.

Private wetlands duck hunting and crop field hunting for goose and duck. Our best waterfowl hunting is in Missouri on the lower Missouri River Basin composed of hundreds of micro flyways where the Missouri, Upper Mississippi and Ohio Rivers converge.

Missouri duck hunting is from permanent blinds, wade-in or layout boats at the duck hunter's choice. Read about how we manage our Missouri duck hunting to numbered blinds that prevent public wetlands duck hunter mentality of setting up too close, skybusting or trying to steal flights.

Bill with some Canada Geese from the early season

Missouri goose hunting is over thousands of acres of crop stubble on and near a variety of Missouri State refuges and private land waters. Our Missouri goose hunting is primarily for Canada Goose while many travel for Missouri's late and spring season Snow Goose hunting.

Within one season each duck and goose hunter may hunt over flooded crop, marsh, timbered pot holes, slough and sloughs flooded through timber. Try our Missouri duck and goose hunting and then travel to Kansas for a tall grass pheasant hunt adding variety to each trip.

After trying several of our private Missouri wetlands, one or two will become favored just as a blind or two on each may become preferred. Future hunts can return to those wetlands or blinds or as some others do follow the migration hunting that area with the best reports. In most cases those willing to pay for waterfowl hunts are more seasoned and there is a lot of gray hair amongst our duck hunters. The benefit of this experienced group after their first season with us, is that most if they are not already drake only, they will become drake only hunters. This seasoned group of duck hunters are also the most social within our organization and many will team up to share a blind the morning of the hunt. The common parking area of the wetlands will bring together those of similar nature and it is common for those with and without dogs to team up for a morning hunt.

Upland Birds

Darren from Minnesota with the results from his first pheasant hunt with MAHA

Upland bird hunting of wild quail and pheasant where hunters do not compete for land and may enjoy their dogs without mixing them with others. The bird hunter has a choice when upland bird hunting with us between more quail or pheasant and choice of habitat adding to every upland bird hunt a bit more adventure through variety.

Pheasant hunting is over tall grass lands, brush filled draws and crop fields where quail may also be hunted frequently. It is often that when a dog goes on point it is unknown until flush if a quail or pheasant should rise. A quick review of our pheasant hunting section will allow for a better analysis of what level of pheasant and quail or habitat preference would work best for the first hunt. After that first upland bird hunt the second onto a different region may well show how one type of habitat or bird is more preferred for hunting style and dog power.

Kansas pheasant hunting is the best of our three states with Kansas' abundance of CRP acreage. Those traveling for a Kansas pheasant hunting trip will enjoy they can also get away from tall grass pheasant hunting as Kansas being a  "drainage" state offers many brushed in draws cutting through crop fields. These draws have the added bonus of overlapping quail cover.

Iowa pheasant hunting brings an earlier season and another chance for a combination pheasant and quail hunting experience. Iowa pheasant hunting long recognized as a top tier pheasant hunting state gives the pheasant hunter a choice from hunting Iowa or Kansas or both for a chance to see more country and get more dog on bird work.

Missouri pheasant hunting is not recommended for those hunters wanting a good pheasant hunt. While Missouri does have a limited pheasant hunting range Missouri's hold on the upland bird hunting will be its wild quail population.

Wild Bobwhite Quail

Jerry at 62 hunts a day at a time

Kansas, Missouri and Iowa all offer a wild quail hunting experience varied by terrain and whether pheasant will overlap the quail range. Quail hunting is along the heavily agricultural land use region of many watershed tributaries bringing edge cover right through grain fields making the right combination of cover and food.

Covey and singles action is well enjoyed not just because of the wild quail hunting but by what is not present as well. Our winters are warmer than northern state grouse woods allowing season long quail hunts, we do not have the heat of southern states, no cactus and no snakes. With a cooler and more humid climate and limited winter snow fall we quail hunt the entire season from the last of October through the end of January.

Kansas quail hunting has long been desired by the upland bird hunter due to overlapping pheasant and quail populations. Kansas also offers quail hunting over the more open drainages allowing for more blue sky quail shooting. Our Kansas quail hunting suits best those that like variety of tall grass pheasant hunts as well as crop edge quail hunting and the combination brush filled draw mixed pheasant and quail habitat.

Missouri quail hunting is the most desired quail hunting as Missouri's smaller fields made by the many tributaries and larger woodlots of the lower Missouri River Basin bring the ideal cover of miles of edge cover and grain field food sources. The upland bird hunter that most prefers Missouri quail hunting are those that seek to minimize dog to pheasant contact. Missouri's pheasant range is greatly limited leaving the majority of cover to quail.

Iowa quail hunting is largely a dedicated traveling quail hunter pursuit. With Iowa upland bird hunting overshadowed by its pheasant population the south central Iowa quail hunting range is largely ignored. For all the reasons any quail hunter enjoys Missouri quail hunting those traveling to Iowa share those with the exception there will be more pheasant encounters. While Iowa's pheasant population is half that of Kansas, the south central Iowa region rivals Missouri for its quail hunting.

Spend your time hunting rather than hunting for a place to hunt!
